The Mary Mostenic Award for Composition

The Mary Mostenic Award for Composition was established in 1999 by Mary Mostenic’s colleagues, in memory of her outstanding 47 years as a part-time composition teacher in the Department of English. As well as teaching composition in the Department of English at The University of Akron, Ms. Mostenic taught English at East High School. She was always a caring and professional teacher, and she touched the lives of many young people with her wisdom and humor. The Akron Beacon Journal quoted Mary as avowing that, “The reward [of teaching] is to have a student call from far away to tell me they appreciated and remembered what I taught.”
