Dr. Richard S. LeFevre Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Richard S. LeFevre Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 by his wife Mary Stowe LeFevre to honor her late husband and his friendship with Mr. Ray C. Bliss and to assist students in the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics. Dr. Richard S. LeFevre was an associate Professor of Urban Studies and Sociology from 1973 to 1979 at The University of Akron. Dr. LeFevre received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swathmore College, a Master of Arts degree from Duke University and Doctor of Philosophy degree from The University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to The University of Akron, Dr. LeFevre taught at Tufts University, Northeastern University and the University of Miami. He was a facilitator of interest groups for the Association of Humanistic Sociology.
The Dr. Richard S. LeFevre Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to upper level students in the Ray C. Bliss Institute at The University of Akron. Eligible students will have successfully completed approximately 60 credits at the University and demonstrate high quality academic work. The scholarship will be open to all social science majors such as sociology, urban studies, and political science. Students will be selected by the Director of the Bliss Institute in coordination with the Office of Financial Aid.
