The C. Robert Brashares Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Music
The C. Robert Brashares Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Music was created in 2006 through the generosity of Jeffrey R. Brashares, in honor of his late father, C. Robert Brashares (1915 – 1992). Mr. C. Robert Brashares was the director of music at John Simpson Middle School in Mansfield, Ohio, for more than 40 years and the director of choral music at Main Street United Methodist Church during that same period of time. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education. For Bob, as his friends called him, it was ALL about helping other people.
The C Robert Brashares Endowed Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in music with preference given to a marching band member specifically a trombone player. The scholarship recipient must have a demonstrated financial need and positive work ethic. It is preferable the recipient be of sophomore junior or senior level status. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the School of Music Scholarship committee with input from Jeffrey R. Brashares and the current Director of Bands in consultation with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
