Gerard John and Betty Jane Talbert Scholarship in Engineering

Originally established in 1998 by J. Michael Talbert, BSChE ’70, chairman of the board of Transocean Inc., to honor the memory of his father, The Gerard John and Betty Jane Talbert Scholarship in Engineering was renamed in 2005 to also honor the memory of his mother.

The senior Mr. Talbert retired as a lieutenant of the city of Akron Police Department after 25 years of service. Mrs. Talbert loved people and had a way of making them feel better about themselves. They both believed that a good education, hard work, persistence, and a belief in yourself were the ingredients for success. Recipients of The Gerard John and Betty Jane Talbert Scholarship in Engineering shall exemplify these qualities. In addition, they shall be residents of Greater Akron, exhibit financial need, and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or greater.
