Solomon H. and Audrey L. Jones Scholarship in Accounting

The Solomon H. and Audrey L. Jones Scholarship in Accounting, which seeks to promote diversity in the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy, was established by Mr. and Mrs. Jones as a non-endowed scholarship in January 2016.

Audrey Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in child and family development from The University of Akron in 1990 and continued her education at Andersonville Theological Seminary, where she obtained a master’s degree in pastoral counseling and a doctor of ministry.

Solomon H. Jones is vice president, controller of The J. M. Smucker Company, a leading manufacturer of food products, located in Orrville, Ohio. He has 25 years of experience in consumer packaged goods, including operations, system implementations, sales and marketing, and financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Also an alumnus of The University of Akron, Solomon earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1989.

The Solomon H. and Audrey L. Jones Scholarship in Accounting will be awarded to graduates of public high schools in Akron or Cleveland. However, students from other school systems in Ohio may be considered if no student from Akron/Cleveland public schools can be identified for the scholarship. Candidates must be an underrepresented minority; full-time sophomores, juniors, or seniors in the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy; and maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher. The School of Accountancy’s Scholarship Committee will select students for the award, which will be presented annually at the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy Awards Banquet.
