David P. Horn Scholarship

The David P. Horn Scholarship was established in 2012 as a lasting memorial to David Horn by his family and friends. The scholarship recognizes David’s passion and loyalty to The University of Akron and its students, and honors his belief in the value of higher education. David was a friend to all, and he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. David Horn graduated in 1969 from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary College, in Wickliffe, Ohio, and from The University of Akron in 1990 with a master’s degree in technical education. David’s two daughters, Kelley and Kimberly, are also University of Akron alumni, and his wife, Darlene, is currently seeking a master’s degree from the University. In 1984, he joined The University of Akron as a member of the Department of Development, first serving as a development officer for the colleges of Nursing and Education. For the next 27 years, David dedicated his professional life to making certain University of Akron students had opportunities to achieve their college dreams. He became director of the Center for Gift and Estate Planning in 1992 and retired as executive director of the Center in June 2012. Under his direction, the University’s planned gift program grew significantly.
The David P. Horn Scholarship is to provide tuition support for students in the College of Business Administration, with first preference given to students majoring in accounting, international business, marketing management, or sales management. Applicants must hold at least a 3.0 GPA.
