Anthony J. Laco, Jr. Endowed Scholarship for The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy

The Anthony J. Laco, Jr. Endowed Scholarship for The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy was created in 2021 in memory of Anthony J. Laco, Jr. It was established by his daughter, Margaret M- Laco Semancik, a University of Akron alumna, and her husband, Dr. William J. Semancik, also a UA alumnus.

Mr. Laco placed a tremendous value on higher education, putting himself through night school while raising five children. He encouraged and supported all of his children in their efforts to achieve a college education. A successful certified public accountant in the Cleveland area, Mr. Laco built a distinguished career, first spending many years in public accounting before becoming a partner in his own accounting firm. He also held a variety of executive financial positions throughout his career.

Following his retirement, Mr. Laco continued sharing his knowledge and skills in accounting. He volunteered to do bookkeeping, budgeting, financial reporting, and many other tasks at his local parish. Also, he continued to do income taxes for family and friends until he was 88 years of age.

Distributions from The Anthony J. Laco, Jr. Endowed Scholarship for The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy shall be used to support students pursuing accounting degrees at The University of Akron. First consideration shall be given to students going into their senior year. Recipient selection shall be made by the Daverio School of Accountancy.
