The Leona W. Farris Scholarship

The Leona W. Farris Scholarship was established in 1987 by the faculty of the School of Home Economics and Family Ecology in recognition of Leona W. Farris, director of community involvement, who taught in the school for 20 years.

Effective March 2012, the earnings from this endowed fund are to be used to encourage and support black University of Akron students majoring in child development or family development. A faculty committee from the department or school housing these degrees will determine the recipient or recipients from black students with a high GPA, commitment to community service, and financial need.
