Anita and Thomas Gedelian Endowed Scholarship

Thomas and Anita Gedelian established The Anita and Thomas Gedelian Endowed Scholarship in 2006 to assist students pursuing degrees in accounting and finance in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration. As alumni and benefactors of the College of Business Administration, Mr. and Mrs. Gedelian are active supporters of their alma mater. Mr. Gedelian has served the College as a member of the Institute for Global Business Advisory Board and through his current membership on the College’s Advancement Council. He also serves as a director of The University of Akron Foundation. He received a BA in accounting in 1977 and is a shareholder in the firm of Brockman, Coats, Gedelian & Company. In 1991, he was awarded the Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Award, which recognizes outstanding business alumni at The University of Akron. Mrs. Gedelian returned to school after raising three children and earned a BA in finance in 2005. She represented the College of Business Administration as the student responder at her commencement ceremony. Mrs. Gedelian is with the Private Client Services Group of FirstMerit Bank. Establishing a scholarship to assist students in their academic pursuits in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration is another example of the Gedelians belief in the importance of higher education. In selecting recipients of the Gedelian Endowed Scholarship, preference will be given to a junior or senior majoring in accounting or finance. Applicants must maintain a 3.3 GPA and demonstrate employment that assists in contributing to college expenses, as well as participation in civic or community activities or organizations. Students should apply in writing to the College of Business Administration scholarship committee to express their interest in The Anita and Thomas Gedelian Endowed Scholarship and to indicate their need for financial assistance. Selection will be made by the dean of the College of Business Administration with input from the department chairs of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy and the Department of Finance.
