the Edith Delaney Mitchell Scholarship

The Edith Delaney Mitchell Endowed Scholarship was established in 1975 by Zeta Theta Omega Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., in honor of the first black graduate from Teacher’s College of The University of Akron, class of 1933. It is awarded annually to a minority female undergraduate who is a full-time student (minimum of 12 hours) in her sophomore or junior year or the first semester of her senior year and who exhibits high ethical standards, indicates a financial need, and holds a scholastic average of 3.0 or better among those eligible for consideration. The chapter’s Scholarship Committee interviews candidates recommended by The University of Akron and determines the recipient.
