The Marlene K. Toot Endowed Scholarship Fund

Marlene K. Toot graduated with a Master of Arts in nutrition and dietetics from The University of Akron in 1992 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Walsh University, Canton, Ohio, in 1985. Her professional career includes 17 years with The Timken Company, as well as positions with C-E-I-R (a division of Control Data Corporation) and General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Currently, she works as a nutrition and exercise speaker in schools, hospitals, clubs, and businesses throughout the area. Not surprisingly, her favorite pastimes revolve around physical activity and include golf, running, hiking, weight training, and competitive shotgun shooting.

With a lifelong commitment to better the community, Toot has held numerous civic roles, including as a trustee with Goodwill Industries and the American Heart Association, as a member of the Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital and The University of Akron Nutrition Advisory Board, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Associates of Harvard Business School. Presently, she serves as a member of the Harvard Committee on University Resources.

Toot’s desire to improve the lives of others includes a passion for helping people fulfill their dreams in higher education. To this end, she established The Marlene K. Toot Endowed Scholarship Fund in 2008 to provide assistance to either an undergraduate or graduate student in The University of Akron College of Health Profession’s School of Nutrition and Dietetics. The distinguished recipient of the scholarship will be selected annually by the director of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics in coordination with the Office of Student Financial Services.
