The Marnie Whitmer Turnaround Student Scholarship

The Marnie Whitmer Turnaround Student Scholarship was established by Marnie E. Whitmer to support students who, through the course of high school, develop an appreciation for the importance of education. As a result, the individuals display a “turnaround” from being underachieving students to having a personal motivation to equip themselves with a college education in order to better pursue their life goals.

The Marnie Whitmer Turnaround Student Scholarship is to be awarded annually to an incoming freshman or a current University student from North High School in Akron who plans to study full time at The University of Akron, demonstrates financial need, and meets the purpose described above. Selection of award recipients is to be made by the Office of Student Financial Aid in consultation with a scholarship committee composed of North High School counselors and/or teachers. The scholarship, renewable for four years, is to include full tuition, books, and fees if the student maintains a 2.5 (on a 4.0 grade point system) GPA. The recipient is to be a North High School student or, in the absence of a suitable applicant, a student from any public high school in the Akron area.
