the Rosemary Titmas Wright Scholarship Fund
The Rosemary Titmas Wright Scholarship Fund was established in March 2014. An Akron native, Rosemary Titmas Wright graduated from Buchtel High School in 1954 and The University of Akron in 1958, earning a B.A. with distinction in English. While a student at The University of Akron, Mrs. Wright was a member of Alpha Phi Delta honorary, an A-Key Award recipient, a Pierian Award winner, and consistently on the Dean’s List. She also was awarded several scholarships, including The Arthur L. Foster, The Pixley, The Ervin D. Fritch and Ada B. Fritch, and The Panhellenic. Mrs. Wright earned an M.A. in English from Florida Atlantic University in 1982, basing her thesis on a C.S. Lewis’ novel, Till We Have Faces.
Mrs. Wright taught preschool and elementary school in Ohio and Florida. In 1982 she returned to Ohio, where she held administrative positions at Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs Law Firm from 1983-2003.
Mrs. Wright is grateful to The University of Akron for giving her the opportunity to earn a college degree and build a successful career. Her affinity for The University of Akron and belief in the importance of higher education led her to establish this endowed scholarship. A strong supporter of all things Zips, she is an avid sports fan and regularly attends Akron football, basketball, and soccer events.
Applicants must participate in the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics. The Bliss Institute leadership will provide a list of candidates for Mrs. Wright to review. At a future point in time, when Mrs. Wright cannot or prefers not to choose the recipient(s), her daughter, The Honorable Judge Alison McCarty along with the Bliss Institute Scholarship Committee will do so. The scholarship recipient shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. Only students with 36 or more credit hours will be considered for the award. Applicants must provide proof of community service work, be of high moral and ethical character, and politically conservative.
