Helen F. Stansfield Scholarship Fund
The Helen F. Stansfield Scholarship Fund was established in October 2014. It is designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a degree in special education.
Helen F. Stansfield was born August 9, 1911, in Chicago to the late Wilson A. and Pearl E. Stansfield. Following her high school graduation, Ms. Stansfield earned a bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Akron. She retired from Akron Public Schools, where she taught physically challenged students, after more than 38 years of service. Ms. Stansfield passed away at the age of 102 on July 30, 2014. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Akron. She also was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Applicants must be full-time students at The University of Akron in the College of Education who are pursuing a degree in special education. Students must provide a record of community service. The College of Education Scholarship Committee will make the selections, with final approval confirmed by Student Financial Aid.
