Marlowe Christopher Scholarship

The Marlowe N. Christopher Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 through a generous gift from The Marguerite Christopher Family Revocable Trust. Through the trust, Marguerite Christopher, wife of Marlowe, directed $35,000 of her estate to The University of Akron for an endowed scholarship supporting students.

A husband, father, Korean War veteran and member of the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281, Marlowe Christopher took evening classes, over more than 20 years, at several northeast Ohio universities, including The University of Akron, Kent State University and The Ohio State University. He did this while working full-time and raising his family. Marlowe earned his Associate of Arts degree from UA in 1980, and his bachelor’s degree in natural sciences in 1982 at age 52. Earning the degrees were important to Marlowe, being key parts of a personal goal. During his career, Marlowe was employed at General Tire, Monsanto, Burton Rubber, and he retired as the vice president of Dyna Mix. He vowed to make it possible to help other financially challenged students earn their degree in a timely manner.

The Marlowe N. Christopher Endowed Scholarship shall be awarded annually to full-time University of Akron undergraduate students with financial need. Students ranging from their sophomore through senior level are eligible for this scholarship. Recipient selection will be made by the University Scholarship Committee and the scholarship may be renewed as long as the recipient remains eligible and in good standing.
