Ty Gowins Endowed Scholarship for Baseball

The Ty Gowins Endowed Scholarship for Baseball was established at The University of Akron by Jerry “Ty” Gowins in 2021, to support fellow Zips baseball program members and in recognition of the University’s Sesquicentennial Anniversary.

Ty attended The University of Akron and was an accomplished student-athlete, pitching for the UA Zips Baseball team prior to graduating from the College of Business with a degree in Marketing and Sales Technology in 1985. He went 6-0 and set a record for six consecutive wins in a season in 1982 and went on to be named Pitcher of the Year in 1983. Ty may not have been able to attend UA were it not for baseball and the scholarship awarded to him and wants to assist students in the same way.

The Ty Gowins Endowed Scholarship for Baseball will be awarded to an active pitcher on The University of Akron Men’s Baseball team. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA). Recipient selection will be made by the Zips Baseball coaching staff in conjunction with the Zips Athletics Department.
