Copley VFW Post 7971 Endowed Scholarship/Award

Under the leadership of Commander Michael T. Ridenour, members of the Copley VFW Post 7971 established The Copley VFW Post 7971 Endowed Scholarship/Award in May 2022. This scholarship/award provides financial assistance to University of Akron students who are U.S. military veterans or family members of veterans who reside in Copley, Ohio.

The Copley VFW Post 7971 Endowed Scholarship/Award is open to all full-time University of Akron undergraduate students who are honorably discharged U.S. military veterans or the family member of an honorably discharged veteran, as defined by Ohio law, who reside in Copley, Ohio. Scholarships may be renewable for up to four years. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need, a commitment to community service, and who are in good academic standing at UA.

Award decisions will be made by UA’s Military Services Center and will first be applied as a scholarship to the recipient’s student account, covering (in preferential order) the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and meal plan expenses. Awards used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
