Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/Award

The Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/Award was established by Mark Oravecz in 2022 to honor his family’s deep connection to The University of Akron and to provide scholarship assistance to deserving UA students.

Mark’s parents, Andrew and Phyllis Oravecz, met as students at The University of Akron. Both earned bachelor’s degrees in education in 1949. Andrew also earned a master’s degree in educational administration in 1960. He was an award-winning teacher with the Akron Public Schools, retiring with 30 years of service.

In continuation of the legacy established by his parents, Mark also attended The University of Akron, earning an associate degree in data processing in 1976 and a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1979. Mark retired from Bridgestone Firestone in 2020 after a storied 44-year career with the company.

Mark’s brother, Paul Oravecz, also attended The University of Akron and spent 42 years working for The Lubrizol Corporation.

The Oravecz Family Endowed Scholarship/Award will be awarded annually to one or more students enrolled at The University of Akron. The scholarship may be applied toward the cost of tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board on the recipient’s student account. Award decisions will be determined by the University Scholarship Committee. Distributions used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
