Helen K. Cleminshaw Endowed Scholarship

The Helen K. Cleminshaw Endowed Scholarship was established in 2023 by John G. Cleminshaw and his family to lovingly honor the memory of John’s wife, Helen K. Cleminshaw, and to celebrate and recognize Helen’s life journey and achievements.

In 1981, Helen was appointed Director of the Center for Family Studies at The University of Akron. During her time at UA, she developed numerous programs designed to strengthen family bonds including home-based intervention. One of the major contributions she fostered was her Child Life curriculum, which trained students to work with seriously ill children and minister to their emotional needs. Helen was a prolific producer of funds acquired through grants. Her listing of awards, presentations, and publications is outstanding. Helen also established The Fred A. Kronseder and Helen W. Kronseder Scholarship in 1987 to encourage students in the joy of learning at The University of Akron. The scholarship was established in honor of her parents who first taught Helen the delight achieved by study.

The Helen K. Cleminshaw Endowed Scholarship supports deserving full- or part-time graduate or undergraduate students majoring in Child & Family Development. Recipients will be selected by The University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid with a preference given to students who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and are involved in extracurricular activities. Graduate students should receive first consideration. The number of recipients and scholarship amounts may vary as funds are available.
