Bruce Higley Scholarship
The Albert M. Higley Company is a distinguished construction firm with a notable presence in Akron and Cleveland, as well as Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Morristown, N.J. With a legacy spanning almost a century, the Albert M. Higley Company has consistently excelled in translating clients’ aspirations into tangible achievements. Throughout their storied history, the company has adhered unwaveringly to core principles, including integrity, honesty, and mutual respect. These were the guiding principles championed by Bruce Higley, a figure instrumental in shaping the company’s values. The Albert M. Higley Company established The Bruce Higley Scholarship in 2023 to honor Bruce’s enduring legacy at the company and to underscore the company’s commitment to nurturing future generations in line with these principles.
The Bruce Higley Scholarship was established as part of We Rise Together, the Campaign for The University of Akron.
Eligible candidates for The Bruce Higley Scholarship must:
• Be full-time undergraduate students in The College of Engineering and Polymer Science,
• Be pursuing a degree in civil engineering or construction engineering technology,
• Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, and
• Have demonstrated financial need.
Preference will be given to those candidates who successfully register for a cooperative (co-op) work assignment with The Albert M. Higley Company. Recipients shall be selected by The University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, and books. The scholarship may be renewable; however, previous recipients must submit a new scholarship application annually.
